The plot according to me: Two guys must are to retrieve a sacred sword that was lost in a poker game in order to save their friend from the brotherhood..kind of.
Vampiristics: A whole bunch of crazy Islamic Vampire Terrorists, not much vampiric content.
My opinion on the movie: This movie is supposedly an interactive game on DVD, but I am reviewing this from a linear videotape, so I can't comment on how the game is. As a movie, it is an extremely corny slapstick comedy. Every scene was at least entertaining, with many truly funny moments scattered throughout.
Unfortunately, the vampire aspect is mostly in name only. There are tons of "Islamic Vampire Terrorists", but they are mostly mindless, hyperactive shooting targets. It is quite funny how absurd they are though.
You can't expect a great movie out of this, and I really wouldn't expect a good vampire movie, but if you're like me and enjoy stupid comedies from time to time, this might be a good movie when you're bored.
Added May 23, 2004: I have now given the interactive version of this movie a try. It is a game in the spirit of the Dragon's Lair arcade game of the 80s in that you must choose the correct actions (up, down , left, right, or fire) in order to advance the story. You know when you must make a decision because a little Islamic Vampire Terrorist will pop up in the corner of the screen. If you make the wrong choice you see a death sequence and the scene starts over.
A neat concept in theory, the game can get very frustrating very fast. The main problem is it's not always obvious what button needs to be pressed, even after you know the correct answer, which reduces it to a big trial and error session. This is particularly annoying with long scenes that you must make multiple actions flawlessly or do everything over again. To soften the blow, I suggest keeping a log of all the moves that you have done correctly, or better yet, invite a friend over to play, so you can laugh at them as they start throwing the remote around (on second thought, invite yourself over to their house ;)
Having already seen the movie to the end, I can say that it's worth struggling through the choices for the laughs. The movie can be bought directly from Ponderous Productions
Disc essentials:
Video: 1.33:1
Audio:
Language: English
Subtitles: none
Special features: Non-interactive movie, game lesson, commentary?
My opinion on the disc:No complaints about the picture or sound.
The main features include a short lesson on how to play the game, which comes in handy so you know what you're supposed to do, and luckily, Ponderous Productions was kind enough to include a non-interactive version of the movie on the DVD for those who can't make it through the game.
There's also supposed to be two commentaries on the DVD. I don't seem to have them, but then again my copy may not be the full DVD. Obviously I cannot comment on this aspect of the disc, and I suppose you should not count on these commentaries since I am not sure if it's a mistake or not at this point.
