Quick vote: enjoyable
The plot according to me: A single father lives on the road with his young vampiric daughter until their past comes back to haunt them.
Vampiristics: Two vampiresses. The vampires are a separate species (not supernatural) but have many of the traits you'd expect in a vampire. A few fangs, lots of blood when there needs to be.
My opinion on the movie: There have been movies featuring pre-teen vampires before, but this is the first movie I know of that really explores what it's like for a child to be "cursed" with vampirism. The movie picks up at a time when Dawn is going through a sort of vampiric puberty, with her vampire instincts beginning to overwhelm her. With this being a low budget film the special effects aren't the greatest, but the story and actors (especially the leads) more than make up for it.
The film has kind of a bizarre atmosphere. The combination of the music, the performances and being a black and white film gives off a vibe that I can best describe as calming. Besides this relaxed feel, however, the story is also very emotional as you watch Dawn trying to lead a human life while being forced to live as a vampire.
There is one thing that bothered me a little about the movie. There is a flashback sequence in the middle of the film that's a little on the long side. It's so long that I almost forgot it was a flashback by the time it was over. Fortunately it's an interesting flashback and is a part of the story that really needed to be told, so it really doesn't lessen the movie at all, it just feels a little odd.
This is a movie for those who believe a vampire film can exist outside the horror genre. Unless gore and violence are the only reasons you like vampires, you should definitely check this out (but for those that do enjoy a good feeding, no fears, these vampire are very messy eaters ;)
