Quick vote: worth a watch

The plot according to me: After his girlfriend sacrifices herself to save him from her abusive husband, Jonathan has a gypsy turn him into a vampire so they can reunite 100 years later.

Vampiristics: One vampire, fairly standard, "dies" during the day and reawakens at night. A few good feeding scenes.

Vampire Pictures
Jonathan, is turned into a vampire so he can reunite with his girlfriend.

My opinion on the movie: It's no secret that I am a big fan of Subspecies, so when I found out that one of the stars was off making a vampire movie of her own I was automatically interested. After a few years of waiting, the movie is finally released, so was it worth the wait? You bet!

The movie starts out with a powerful scene from the past. It is sad and romantic, but also gets you in the mood for the rest of the movie. In the present time the movie becomes a bit like modern Dracula films (with a vampire searching for the reincarnation of his former girlfriend) but that's about the end of the similarity. The story is done in a clever "history repeats itself" theme, and gets increasingly interesting as the movie progresses.

The movie is filled with nods to Denice's other vampire movies (the Subspecies series) some obviously intentional, others maybe not. From the opening credits (very Vampire Journals) to the name of the library (look fast!), there's enough in there to keep a Subspecies fan playing a game of "Where's Waldo" ;)

With all the good, there is some bad unfortunately. This bad mainly takes the form of badly framed scenes. I'm talking mainly about stuff being in the scene that's not supposed to be. I am not sure who's to blame here, whether it's first time director Denice Duff making rookie mistakes or the production company releasing a wide-screen movie in the wrong aspect ratio (I'm not sure the intended ratio, but it's shown in standard TV's 4:3). While noticeable, I don't let stuff like this ruin my viewing experience, but it's something to take into account if you're sensitive on stuff like this.

With it's romantic themes and above average cast this is a great movie for a vampire fan to watch with their significant other, but it also has enough vampire action that you can enjoy the movie even if you have no interest in the romantic side of things.

back Disc essentials:

Video: 1.33:1
Audio: Stereo
Language: English
Subtitles: none

Special features: director commentary, making of, deleted scenes

My opinion on the disc: No complaints about the video or sound.

The commentary is average. Director Denice Duff is fun to listen to while she talks about the cast and crew and gives some anecdotes on the making of the film. It's not a must listen, but if you're a fan you need to check it out.

The making of and deleted scenes (there are a lot of them) aren't all that exciting really. It's fun to watch some of the scenes at random, but felt a little tedious trying to watch them all (I would have much rather had an introduction or commentary explaining the scene some, but you can't have everything)
